Vice President Alupo Meets SLAU Leadership to Advance Charter Application
August 2023 | St. Lawrence University Uganda
Uganda’s Vice President and SLAU Chancellor H.E. Jessica Alupo hosted the University’s top leadership to discuss progress on SLAU’s application for full chartered status — a major milestone in the institution’s growth.
Vice President of Uganda, H.E. (Rtd.) Major Gen. Jessica Alupo, who also serves as Chancellor of St. Lawrence University Uganda (SLAU), hosted the University’s senior leadership team for a high-level meeting focused on the progress of SLAU’s application for full chartered university status.
The meeting brought together the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Registrar, and other senior administrators. H.E. Alupo expressed her personal commitment to working hand in hand with the University to attain charter status as soon as possible, underscoring the government’s support for quality private higher education in Uganda.
SLAU submitted its charter application to the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in October 2022. Attaining full chartered status will allow the University to award its own degrees independently and expand its academic offerings further across Uganda and the East African region.
The Vice Chancellor thanked the Chancellor for her continued support and reaffirmed SLAU’s commitment to meeting all requirements set by the NCHE. Key areas discussed included infrastructure development, academic quality assurance, and student welfare.
This milestone meeting signals a bright future for SLAU as it pursues its mission of providing high-quality, affordable, and entrepreneurial higher education to students from Uganda and over 20 countries worldwide.
