Our faculty members are experienced researchers who believe that teaching and research go hand-in-hand. Representing a wide array of backgrounds, the faculty offers you diverse perspectives that will enhance your understanding of the challenges you may face when you graduate, including ongoing collaborative exploration of the latest technologies.
All professors in the teacher preparation program in SLAU Faculty of Education have classroom teaching experience and are eligible for teacher certification in Alberta. Faculty participate in the supervision of student teachers, enabling the effective integration of theory and practice throughout all components of the program. The faculty is committed to maintaining a close professional relationship with our teacher partners across southern Alberta. The frequent contact with teachers and schools generates many innovative research projects in which students may participate.
Each year, we bring in some of the best and brightest teachers from southern Alberta to spend the year on campus. They can give you the most recent perspectives on classroom issues.
As a student in the Faculty of Education, you will rarely be in a class with more than 65 students. When you are student teaching, you will be in very small groups, from six to 20, with a supervising faculty member. You will spend a lot of time with faculty – they will know you and you will know them. At the U of L, you are not just a face in the crowd.
